Make Sure You're Dead

A couple of American guys are out hunting when one of them falls to the ground, clutching his heart. He doesn’t seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other guy whips out his cell phone and dials 911. He gasps to the operator, “I’m in the middle of nowhere. I think my friend is dead! What can I do?” The operator says, in a calm, soothing voice,
“Just take it easy. First, let’s make sure he really is dead.”
"OK, just a minute," the guy says.
There’s a silence, then the sound of a shot. The guy’s voice comes back on the line. He says, “OK, now what?”

“Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Rom 6:8-11 ESV)

“No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.” (1 John 3:6-9)

If we really have died with Christ, died to sin, let us make sure we live like it. Let’s make sure we really are dead.

BTW Terry, thanks for Wednesday nights.

Take Care
